“Ate in restaurant (stayed in excellent MH park up). Service - Gary and Brenda are very good. Locals with enthusiam and care. Food - Well above the usual ‘tourist hotel’ both in terms of choice and quality. Presentation also made with care. Lots of locals eating in too, and a nice vibe in the bar for a drink as well. Cullen skink (has to be tried in place of origin was good - smoky but not too salty). Scallops (3) with celeriac/black pudding good but an extra scallop needed?”
“Visited The Royal Oak Hotel last night for dinner. It is a lovely place..beautifully decorated..a warm welcoming atmosphere and the staff were friendly and chatty..just what we like. The food was freshly made to order and absolutely delicious my partner had haunch of venison with roasted veg and a glossy deep jus..I had fish and chips..the haddock was massive.. Flaked beautifully..fresh and tasty. Batter was crisp and stayed crisp right to the end. We will most definitely be returning. Can't recommend enough”
“An absolutely wonderful stay at the Royal Oak Hotel. The service was amazing from my initial phone enquiry and throughout my stay. All staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and made me feel very much at home. A fantastic breakfast set me up for the day!!! A huge thanks to you all!!!”
“Food and service was 10/10. The Cullen Skink soup was so good and as was the creamy mushrooms on toast! The portions sizes were great as well! We got the venison haunch and the seafood platter for two and it was well worth the money. Caroline and Brenda were lovely and we had a great chat about the place!”
“We are staying in Cullen for a couple of days at a family friends place and went round to this lovely pub and restaurant next to the sea front. Although we didn’t eat as had a reservation elsewhere we stayed to have a few drinks and the staff were so lovely and accommodating. Our 3 year old was explaining sign language to the staff who were playing along with him keeping him amused so we could relax. Definitely worth a visit and the locals all say the food is great, so next time will definitely come for food and the easy going atmosphere. As we were leaving the staff came to say bye which was a really nice touch.”
“We stopped in for a couple of pints on a cold evening after a lovely walk. The pints turned into a fantastic bowl of Cullen skink and a prawn cocktail. I have to say, the food was absolutely fantastic, the staff was busy but took care of us as if we were locals. Freddie, the young fella they had working with them might have been the hardest working and most professional young person I have seen in a long time. A fantastic experience all around.”
“What a lovely pub with great atmosphere and a good variety of menu. We started with haggis pakora, ( could have eaten a whole plateful) then a main of Steak pie and chips excellent food. Our lovely waitress Alicia made sure we had everything we needed, very polite and very attentive. Highly recommended will definitely eat here again”
